AMETEK Process Instruments reports it has introduced its third generation H2S/SO2 tail gas analyser with significant reliability advances for control of the Claus sulfur recovery process. The company says new features of the Model 888 Sulfur Recovery Tail Gas Analyser overcome the three most common external failure modes encountered by Sulfur Recovery Units (SRU).

Mayr says its ROBA-stop-S is an electromagnetic fail-safe brake that has been developed specifically to operate in arduous, wet and corrosive environments. It is designed to hold a system in position when the drive has been switched off and in emergency situations such as E-stop or power failure, the brake can act dynamically to bring the load to rest.

Niplast reports it has supplied two storage tanks to Suretank Ltd, a leading manufacturer of CCUs (Cargo Carrying Units) for the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry. The tanks, to be used to store sodium bromide and hydrochloric acid in the Caribbean, were commissioned by the customer in polypropylene rather than their usual steel construction, due to the highly corrosive nature of these chemicals. An unusual, but key, design request from the customer was that the Niplast tanks would be able to be transported horizontally within a purpose built mild steel frame based on an ISO container specification. To facilitate shipping from location to location, the empty tanks will be held in the horizontal position via a flanged bolted base and a polypropylene lined cradle. When configuring how to best locate and support the empty tank within the frame, Niplast and Suretank designers had to take into account transportation loads and acceleration factors.

In maintenance, it only requires a finger and thumb 'instant' check to see if the RotaCap is still locked on the head of the bolt indicating that the correct tension is being maintained across the joint. However matters become slightly more complex if the maintenance check is underwater involve a diver’s suit and gloves.
